This song is a deep spiritual expression of the longing of Meerabai (India’s one of the greatest poet
Saints and Krishna devotee), for Lord Krishna.
The Poet says that her madness for love of Krishna cannot be comprehended by anyone, as its tough
for earthly beings to accept the idea of divine love. She says that the ways of the world are very painful
and lack peace…hence it’s impossible to attain peace while being a part of this world. She craves for the
ultimate peace and union with god…mentions that it’s a long and an arduous journey to get to him.
She says that, just like only an injured can understand the pain of an injury, and a jeweler understands
the true value of his jewels, only the one suffering with this kind of longing, can understand her pain.
Meerabai says that her pain will only subside if the doctor i.e. Lord himself comes to heal her.
