Zamana Kharab Hai – Ehsaan & Loy feat. Dominique Cerejo & Bhanu Pratap, Coke Studio @ MTV Season 2

Estimated read time 4 min read

This is a song about the changing times. It’s a song that perfectly captures the dilemmas of life. It talks about the pressures of everyday life & the everyday questions none can escape. But it’s also about staying rooted, learning from life’s lessons and staying focused on your dreams. Zamana Kharab Hai, like life, is about never giving up.

To do justice to its depth of meaning, the song has a simple arrangement with a strong focus on the lyrical content. This song also showcases a beautiful fusion between Bhanu Pratap’s Rajasthani Sufi vocals and Dominique Cerejo’s jazz-pop vocals.

Bade Bhagya, Manush Tan pawa
Sur Durlabh saddh granth nagawa
Sadhan dham moksh kar dwara
Paay na jenhi parlok sawara

Yeh zamaana kharaab hai,
Miyaan kaisaa mazaak hai,
Bande bande mein daag hai,
Miyaan kaisa mazaak hai,
Main naseehat kya doon,
Sab toh hain sayaane yahaan,
Phir bhi saaf saaf keh doon,
Sab kuch hai la la la la,

Andhi haveli hai dil, dil binaa pyaar ke,
Pinjar sa dheh jaaYehgaa, zindagi talaashtaa phirtaa kahaan

Yeh zamaana kharaab hai,
Miyaan kaisaa mazaak hai,
Bande bande mein daag hai,
Miyaan kaisa mazaak hai,

Main hidaayat kya doon,
Sab hain manmaane yahan,
Sau ki ek baat keh doon,
Sab kuch hai la la la la,

Hai zindagi ek til, rooh ke gaal pe,
Manzar sa beh jaaYehgaa, zindagi sambhaaltaa phirtaa kahaan

Yeh zamaana kharaab hai,
Miyaan kaisaa mazaak hai,
Bande bande mein daag hai,
Miyaan kaisa mazaak hai,

Baat baat pe leke ballam kaahe ko ad jaaYeh,
Aisaa neik kamaaYeh kyun duniyaa mein khalal pad jaaYeh,
Tujh mein rehne rab aaya toh beghar kyun kehlaaYeh,
Murakhpan mein kyun pagle tu aaj ko aag lagaaYeh,

Saari padhaaee kis pipal ke ped pe taang aayaa,
Baant batore ke haaraa tab jaanaa kya paaya,
Kyun befazooli mein mann, mann chalaa haar ke,
Niras hi reh jaaYeh na, tu khushi talaashtaa phirtaa kahaan

Yeh zamaana kharaab hai,
Miyaan kaisaa mazaak hai,
Bande bande mein daag hai,
Miyaan kaisa mazaak hai,

Main vasihat kya doon,
Sab mitaane aaYeh yahan
Phir bhi ek raaz keh doon,
Sab kuch hai la la la la

Miltaa nahin aadmi, laakhon deedaar mein,
Jhonke sa beh jaaYeh ga, khudh ko bigaadtaa phirtaa kahaan
Yeh zamaana kharaab hai,
Miyaan kaisaa mazaak hai,
Bande bande mein daag hai,
Miyaan kaisa mazaak hai,

Yeh zamaana kharaab hai,
Miyaan kaisaa mazaak hai,
Bande bande mein daag hai,
Miyaan kaisa mazaak hai,

Sochein…Sochein…
Yeh Zamaana Kharaab Hai
Sochein…

Meaning:

Song starts with the lines from a Hindu holy book called “The Ramcharitmanas”,

written by Tulsidas a Saint, poet and a writer…a great devotee of Lord Rama. He

depicts in his book that it is extremely difficult and rare to be born in a human form.

It is also depicted in all Indian scriptures that even gods and goddesses long for it.

Thus we must use this very valuable chance to meditate and clear our gateway to

salvation.

In the later verses the Poet reiterates the fact of impermanence and unpredictable

nature of life. Says that there is a part of the Divine in every being, yet there is

so much ignorance and ego in people. He says that there is no use wasting this

precious life in senseless arguments and actions rather use this life to sow good

deeds, as the biggest secret is that…everything our soul truly seeks is within us.

Hence stop running mindlessly behind happiness, materials or earthly infatuations,

as none of this is here to stay forever.
